FAQs/Rules

How does the format work?

How to play: Every Thursday 10 games will be uploaded to the ‘make your picks’ section of the website. You will fill out who you think will cover the spread and assign a confidence point level of 1-10 next to each game using each number only once. 10 being the most confident and 1 being the least. We will never pick a Thursday/Friday game with the exception of the last week of the season. You must fill these out before 12:00 EST Saturday (kickoff). Every saturday we send out the link to see all the picks, and follow along live with updates and projections. Sunday the recaps are sent out and winners are rewarded, site will be updated with new standings.

Scoring: For each game that you chose correctly you will receive the number of points that you assigned to it. Your total will be added up and will count as your weekly total and also go towards your overall total. You do not lose points for incorrect picks. So the most points available in a week is 55, and the least is 0.

How does the Wild Card playoff work?

Wild Card Playoffs: The Wild Card will run concurrently as the regular season-long competition during weeks 10-14. The Wild Card will start with 30 people and will eventually pay out 2 people. There will be two ways to be eligible for the Wild Card. 1st way: If you come in 2nd any of weeks 1-9 you will automatically be entered. 2nd way: The next highest people on the leaderboard who did not win a game will be entered. Each week, starting week 10, the eligible contestants will automatically be entered into a side pool and the lowest 6 score totals from that specific week of the remaining eligible contestants are eliminated until the final week and the top 2 are winners. Example below (final numbers determined after sign up):

Week 10: 30 contestants
Week 11: 24
Week 12: 18
Week 13: 12
Week 14: 6, with 2 winners

However, if you are not eligible for the Wild Card you are still eligible to win the weekly prize and the season-long prizes, so there is still a chance for everyone to win all the way through the last week.

How can I win?

There will be 3 weekly winners, 5 overall winners, and 2 wild-card winners. The weekly winner will be the person with the highest point total and will win a weekly prize. The overall total will be the top point total from all 14 weeks added up, the top 5 get prizes. There will also be two winners from the Wild Card Playoff.

I barely missed the entry deadline can I still get my pick in?

No. Im sorry, but this happens a few times each year and I can’t make the exception for anyone. The pool is now too large and everyone has been great with any deadlines. It isn’t fair to everyone that got their picks in on time every week to allow someone to have a late entry for a week. Its unfortunate but it doesn’t eliminate you from the running and you still can win!

Can I change a pick?

If you want to change a pick before the deadline you can submit another full entry, if you submit multiple entries in a week we will use the most recent submission.

How are the 10 games selected each week?

Top 25 matchups are always included. From there, an effort is made combine impactful, historic, and even disparity between time slots. A poll will be sent each week for you to have your input made for which games are selected.

Where do you source the spread from?

The spread used in each game is the current live spread when I finalize the picks on either late Wednesday or early Thursday morning. There are no pushes in this pick em, so each spread will have a .5 on it. When finalizing the spread I always use multiple books to determine the most accepted spread, but also one that is actively being offered. Often times multiple books will have a game at a full number (-7 for example) so the decision of -7.5 or -6.5 for our spread will always be whichever is the live one offered at a major Vegas book.

Who made all of this/who is behind the pool?

I started this specific pool in 2015 with a few people competing and have been adding to it each year since and run the weekly operations. Ryan Humphrey has been instrumental in a lot of the behind the scenes work. He makes it possible to have the Live Sheet each week and is a true Google Sheets wizard.
