2024 Week 11 Results
It’s Moving Weekend In The Pick Em
We are all the way into the Pick Em, conference, and playoff runs now. This past weekend both on and off the field gave us one of our best shake-ups of a the season so far. Miami finally goes down leaving SMU as our last lone unbeaten ACC team. The Big 12 in 2 weeks has gone from a three team race between BYU, Iowa State, and Kansas State to now Colorado being even money to be in the final 12.
The SEC no longer runs through Athens and Tuscaloosa, and who it does run through is as good of a guess as anyone.
And in the Pick Em, for the first time since Week 1 both Wesley L. falls out of the top two and Travis B. takes the top spot. While the Wild Card has a 4 way tie for the final spot into next week. It’s been a heck of a week! Let’s get into the recap.
Once a season we always have our weird week with the slate and feature a few of the teams we are going to see in Championship week, and we found that slate in Week 11 with time slot bingo. Two noon kick-offs led us, both featuring a Top 5 team.
The first one gives me great joy to write about. We had a lot of fairly evenly sided picks this week, but Miami led the way by a margin as the most picked team with 81 selections taking the Canes to cover -10.5 traveling to Georgia Tech. While it started off looking like a game we have seen every week with Miami, they didn’t know what they were running into playing the Underwear God aka Haynes King.
While Miami fought every way they could to stay in it.
They ultimately fall to Georgia tech straight up. You can hold Miami back for a long time, but they are inevitable.
Our second early slot game had Florida traveling to Texas who was holding a heavy 21.5 spread with them. The week started off on a great not for Florida because if there is one thing we have all learned through the years is there is nothing more reassuring than a 5 paragraph statement to say you are NOT firing your coach.
Texas went full MJ on them and took it personal and decided to pull out the entire playbook to lay it on Florida.
Texas delivered one of the biggest whoopings to Florida they have received in a long time, as they are trying to get back into form as a big game against the Aggies looms in a couple of weeks. Shoutout Florida for giving us this moment forever.
As we move into the afternoon, Ole Miss and Georgia gave us one of the biggest shake up games of the week. Georgia went into Ole Miss as a 2.5 point favorite that felt almost too good to be true as we have become accustomed to double digit spread for the Dawgs. The Pools Public bought in as 74 selections were put on the Georgia. After going up 7-0 early off a turnover it all looked like a repeat episode until Lane Kiffin turned it on and Georgia turned to their Heisman hopeful to keep them in it.
Georgia was stopped all day long to a degree that hasn’t been done since Kirby’s early days.
Ole Miss controlled the game the rest of the way after going down 7-0, and the real fun started with only a handful of seconds left on the clock.
But with an atmosphere like that and a statement win how could those fans control themselves? It was so infectious that even the Ole Miss Georgia? players were partying too.
Indiana finally earned their first double digit spread as they were a 14.5 point favorite hosting a depleted Michigan team. The oddsmakers have struggled all season with Indiana as every week the Public has been loading up on Indiana and winning with ease, but a larger spread finally deterred some people as Indiana only held a 54-49 lead in selections, looking a lot like a swing state map with Red 5 points ahead. Indiana hosting their biggest game in maybe program history didn’t disappoint either.
While it is a down year for Michigan, they still have enough players and recruits to not fold over like Indiana’s opponents have so far. Late in the game the spread was teetering back and forth, but Michigan kept it a ball game with this and ultimately secured the cover.
Indiana moves to 10-0 and has their next game against the Buckeyes in what will potentially be a conference title play in game.
Early in the year the expectations got taken off Deion Sanders and Colorado with everyone assuming it would be the same old story as last year, but the Buff’s go as their Heisman favorite goes, and he hasn’t wavered a bit. Colorado traveled to Texas Tech with a 3.5 point spread they were looking to cover, and what was a back and forth game ultimately was won by you know exactly who: Travis Hunter.
Even through all of that, Texas Tech got the ball back late and down 7 with a chance to take it to overtime. Let’s take a look and see how that went.
Colorado Travis Hunter wins and keeps the Buffs rolling to 7-2 and a path to the Big 12 title game clearly in sight.
We head to the Sun Belt for a 5pm kickoff this week as Arkansas State and Louisiana played in a defacto division title with the winner having a very clear path to be playing in Week 15. The Cajuns hosted as a 15.5 point favorite and they were finding the endzone early and often.
The Cajuns rolled 55-19 and don’t look now but we are just a little chaos away from having the Ragin Cajuns sneak their way into the 12 team playoff.
As we head into night time we were gifted with one of the best rivalries turned elimination game we could have asked for. Just like Georgia, Alabama was a 2.5 point favorite on the road, going into LSU. It is hard to make the best atmosphere in college football even better, but at LSU there is one thing that can make that happen. Mike the Tiger in the stadium.
After almost 10 years of tiger-free games LSU and the Louisiana Governor wanted to pull out all the stops. They just happened to have think one small little detail wouldn’t be a big factor. They brought in a fully separate tiger to shuttle into the stadium while Mike the Tiger stayed in his sanctuary. How do we think a game is going to go after bringing in a fraud tiger?
Alabama and Jalen Milroe absolutely steam roll LSU and their fake tiger and promptly end LSU’s season and possibly Brian Kellys tenure. Let’s see how the fans are taking it!
Things seem great in Baton Rouge!
Getting later into the night gave us a real chance at a redo in Happy Valley. Penn State -13.5 looked to bounce back hosting Washington and this time they finally got their night kick.
And boy look at the things that white out is able to produce when they arent playing Ohio State.
Penn State bounces back hard with a dominating 35-6 win over Washington. Surely this will be the win to put Penn State on the right path and definitely not choke in the playoff soon!
Further into the night we had a Mountain West battle that took us to the Island as UNLV traveled to Hawaii looking to cover a 13.5 point spread and stay alive in the conference race and a chance to play spoiler to Boise State. What the rebels were hopeful would be an easy win quickly turned into a battle and a fist fight on the Island. UNLV would not sniff the cover but hold on 29-27 to keep their shots at the Mountain West title alive.
And our final game of the night is my personal favorite games each year. Paul Atreides who? The real Holy War went down in Salt Lake City between BYU and Utah.
The Mormon Bowl carrying extra weight this year with BYU looking to remain as one of the last undefeated teams in the country. A Top 10 BYU went in as a 3.5 point favorite against a Utah team that has been as down as we have seen them in a long time. And our Pool’s Public backed them with 74 selections on the Cougars. The game started off with an incredible uniform matchup as an After Dark game should be.
Utah went into half up 21-10 and looked like they had a strong grip on the game. But as we talked about last week, as the nights get darker the real teams come out, and folks, we may have a real team on our hands in BYU. Down 21-10 in the 2nd half, BYU forced Utah to the following 2h drive results: Punt, INT, Punt, Punt, Punt, Punt. The defense clamped down and the BYJew had just enough in him to deliver a game winning drive.
But as rivalries and elections go, this win did not come without a little contesting from the Red side. There was a no-call on a hold on the last BYU drive (hold is in a tweet below), that the Utah Athletic Director in particular did not stand for. He first showed it coming off the field:
As a quick side note I went back and forth reading this tweet thinking it was very funny because it was either a clear fake troll or a guy who seriously believes that a finger wave is the most serious thing ever, and after looking at his profile I am leaning towards he meant it which is fantastic.
Anyways, he also gave an incredible post game conference where he did not hold anything back talking about the refs.
An all time mad guy, Mark Harlan. Either way BYU wins by 1 to remain undefeated but not cover the spread.
And that will conclude our Week 11 slate. Jacob R. takes the 1st place win for the week with the lone 9-1 record for 52 points, and Stephen U. takes 2nd place at 7-3 for 46 points. In the Wild Card we had a double win as Jacob R. was alive and will take the Wild Card weekly win. We started the week with 41 and were looking to get to 32, but a 4 way tie at 30th will extend our Wild Card player count an extra week. These ties are not broken and all players advance so we finish with 33 still alive. But that does mean we will be cutting an extra again this week as we will go down to 24 at the end of Week 12. All of those points reset and the remaining 33 play a new 1-week game.
