2023 Week 1 Results
Monday Night Showdown
What a weekend of games to kick us off. We had 7 time slots of games which my unofficial records say is the most in a single week ever for the Pick Em. And our entire top 3 came down to the final game on Monday Night. The top spot of the week ended up being a tie between James M. and Kyle S. with 45 points. Our first game of RPS tiebreak already coming in here. They both ended up submitting Rock so the 2nd tiebreaker goes to highest correct confidence point pick. Both had their 10, 9, and 8 correct but James M. did not get his 7 right while Kyle S. did. So our Week 1 Winner is Kyle S. He has earned himself the first guaranteed spot into this years Wild Card pool, which has expanded to 40 players this year. James M. takes second place for the week. Third place saw a 3-way tie between Garret B., Michael S., and Robert T. For RPS here if one person can beat the other two they win it, otherwise we go to confidence tiebreak. And this week Michael S. threw the right choice going with rock. The other two both had scissors so Michael S. takes them both out to win 3rd place.

Some weekly notes and trends:
Every week it is fun to see how the top bid teams do. Our top 3 teams this week were Clemson (624), Penn State (534), and Tennessee (522). Clemson obviously lost outright and Tennessee cruised. But Penn State took their spread seriously and scored a meaningless last second touchdown to cover.
Boy does Deion have some dogs and leaders on that team. Colorado (153) was the 3rd lowest bid winning team of the week in their breakout game. Behind only Duke (73) and Indiana (120) for the week in low points won.
The Pac-12 had a perfect opening weekend in the record books, but one team failed to cover despite getting a win on the season. UCLA (305) couldn’t join the rest of the conference. Remember, good teams win but great teams cover.
