A Week Of Tests

All across the Pick Em slate we had road favorites getting tested with a few ‘who’s real’ tests sprinkled in as well. A couple people showed up to say they are here like Colorado, Texas, and Notre Dame. While others showed early signs of possible stink like Utah and Wisconsin. Weeks like these either points can fluctuate massively in just a couple of games but for the most part, big teams hit this week. We had a very solid 9-1 for 54 point showing by Dan S. to win week 1 and secure his Wild Card entry spot. Running just behind him were Robert S. and Dave R. taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. No tiebreaks this week so no RPS showdowns unfortunately. We had more than 1/3 of the pool finishing with 35+ points which is a high performing week, just means the down week is still looming somewhere along the road.

Some weekly notes and trends:

  • We were close but no cigar when it came to having another 600 point bid team on the docket. The top 3 bid teams this week all shared the early noon time slot though so eyes were on the games early for sure. Notre Dame (594) and Colorado (583) both covered and looked good in their wins, while Utah (535) couldn’t overcome not having Cam Rising this week.

  • The biggest win of the week came for Texas (202) but what made it even better for Texas pickers was the fact that it also was the biggest disparity between average points placed in any game this week. Texas got picked by 49 people for an average confidence of 4, while Alabama (352) was taken 55 times for an average of 6.24.

  • The wildest finish of the week was a massive swing in points when Oregon (499) had a pick 6 with 30 seconds left to let them cover their spread. Texas Tech (163) pickers getting crushed by the chaos of college early.

  • The two smallest wins came from Baylor (88) with their early win and Ole Miss (152) getting the benefit of Tulane’s QB getting ruled out right before kick off.
