High Scoring Week Is A Nailbiter

Another big scoring week in the pickem top to bottom, we keep waiting for the slaughter week and it just keeps staying away. The group average was so high that someone was 7-3 this week finishing in 54th place and another person was 9-1 in 9th place. Some of our other 9-1’s faired a little better at the top of the leader board. John M. finished 9-1 for 53 points to lock up a big solo win in Week 7 and securing a Wild Card spot, one he didn’t have entering the week. In 2nd place we had a bit of an interesting tie with Dyer R. and Justin H. both going 9-1 for 52 points. Our tiebreak continues the tie as they both throw down rock. Since their top confidence points will be the exact same they will both tie for 2nd place for the week. If this tie scenario happens in the next two weeks for the 1st place spot while deciding the Wild Card AQ’s both people tieing will get the auto bid. If this happens in a future week after week 9 it will be a tie. First time this has happened yet so fingers crossed! Wild Card qualifying will end after Week 9 where all of our weekly winners plus the highest 31 scorers of the season will kick off the side pool with another chance to win. Read up in the FAQ page if you need a refresher on the Wild Card format.

Some trends and highlights from the week:

  • It is natural that in a high scoring week the top two picked teams would both cover. UNC (463) and Ohio State (449) both looked good in their wins as they covered the spread fairly handily.

  • It was our first week with 0 teams getting less than 100 points bid on them, and we had just 4 teams receive less than 200 points. The only team to cover of the 4 was Oklahoma State (147) as they took care of business against a Jalen Daniels-less Kansas (341) team.

  • In the battle of the best G5 teams, Wyoming (266) kept it just close enough to cover at Air Force (225) but not pull out the win.

  • Only two teams that were picked fewer times overall actually covered in their games this week. Oklahoma State mentioned above and Notre Dame (278) who was picked 2 fewer times.
