2024 Week 7 Results
A Great Day To Be A Saturday
The most anticipated weekend in a long time has delivered. What a fantastic Saturday for college football. 6 of our 10 Pick Em games went into the weekend with a one score spread, 7 of our 10 games finished as a one score game. Incredible games, finishes, and moments all around this weekend. We love to see it. Let’s get into the recap!
Noon kick gave us a rare single-game slate with South Carolina heading into Alabama in a rebound spot.
Bama went in as a 21.5 point favorite and the pool believed in the bounce back as we had 69 of the 102 entries backing them. This game was never in question of who was going to cover the spread, but instead Alabama was fighting just to avoid a homicide from Dylan Stewart
After missing a would-be tying two-point conversion the game seemed to be over but this weekend of football was magical and with that comes crazy plays like an onside kick recover.
Just for this to be the end and Bama to move on.
The afternoon saw a beefy slate of 4 games we would have never gotten before conference realignment. And yes that includes Texas/OU in an SEC battle.
The Red River Shootout Rivalry was the only big spread with an easy favorite covering of the weekend. Oklahoma got bullied into submission with Jackson Arnold to have Michael Hawkins Jr. be the first Sooner true freshman QB to start vs Texas.
5 sacks, 1 fumble, and 20 carries for 27 yards later Texas remains the best team in the country. Also, weird move to pull out the Baker jersey here.
Up next was the new opponents fun game of the week with Penn State taking a trip to LA for conference opponent USC. Penn State went in ranked #4 and favored by 4.5, they had the 2nd highest average confidence point across all teams in the Pick Em this week at 6.65 as well. Penn state went into this game facing a LOT of adversity. Can you believe the hoops they make Penn State go through just to play a game? Disgusting.
USC went up 20-6 at half and a lot of USC fans seemed to be counting their winnings early.
Then came one of the best 2nd halves of football we have had all year. Absolute heart and fight from both teams and Penn State showed they may have a capable offense if they just give it to the big guys. Also this tweet from this person made me laugh a lot.
USC misses an OT field goal and Penn state wins by 3 but does not cover, another big blow to the pool’s public. And another weird flag plant by Penn State. Weird schools continue to do weird things.
A new look ACC game is up next and I’ll let this guy do the intro.
Pitt was a 3.5 point favorite and, like Alabama, had 69 picks on them. After going up 17-9 they failed to score another point the rest of the 2nd half, but still winning 17-15 giving Cal the cover. The big blows for the pool’s public just keep coming.
BYU (-4.5) looked to cement themselves up top of the wide open Big 12 with Arizona coming into town. The Mormons were the 2nd highest picked team of the week at 71 and were by far the easiest winner of the day.
Arizona had 4 turnovers and never stood a chance once the 2nd half started. BYU rolled 41-19 and covered by a smooth 25 points.
To kickoff the night slate, we had an old rivalry renewed once again in Knoxville as the Gators came in to try and knock off Tennessee (-15.5). Tennessee was the most picked team of the week at 72 picks. Our 2nd home SEC powerhouse with a big spread looking for a bounce back win against a weaker SEC team. Can you guess where this is going… Florida early was looking like they could pull the upset, but Billy Napier always comes out and this is where the decline started.
Tennessee pulls out a 23-17 win in OT, never showing any sign of a cover possibility for another huge pool public loss. But with that win Josh Heupel
But don’t tell that to Tennessee fans…
Then comes the game of the week (year?) with Ohio State (-3.5) going into new conference foe Oregon for a top 3 matchup. We are getting championship game previews on an almost weekly basis and some people are mad about conference realignment and saying regular season doesn’t mean anything. The state of college football has never been better. We even had kicker trick plays going in this game:
But as it came down to the wire Ohio state had the ball on the 27, down 1, 1 time out, and 34 seconds on the clock. For sure should at least kick a field goal for the win.
But after a Will Howard isn’t elite moment it got into a tricky situation and then Dan Lanning pulled off an elite coaching move.
Oregon somehow pulls off that win, covers the spread and kills the pools public yet again as Ohio State had the most total confidence points of any team placed on them this week with 415. Oregon moves up to #2 in the rankings but a sneaky Friday in West Lafayette awaits them this week.
The next game took us back to the SEC for a ranked matchup in what seems to be our drunk game of the week. Ole Miss went in favored by 3.5 coming off of their huge bounce back week last week. If you just look at the far left of this chart you may think Ole Miss dominated the game.
But when we pair it with ESPN’s always chaotic win probability chart you get a good look into why it is the drunk game of the week.
LSU had no business being in the game or winning it, but LSU scores late to give us our 3rd OT game of the week and pulls off a huge home win. Ole Miss is crumbling and Brian Kelley seems to have figured out that just adding more Brian Kelley’s may have been what he was missing.
Our 2nd Big 12 game of the week gave us our 2nd clear contender in the conference as well. Iowa State came in favored by 2.5 and sneaking up the rankings quickly. After a great win where they were in control for about 80% of the game it may be time to start taking this team seriously.
Matt Campbell is next up for a big school opening and the work he has done in Ames is nothing short of amazing for what has been a historically garbage program. Great day to be a ‘clone!
And we finish with our good friend Deion taking on Kansas State in what may be a ‘winner is the 3rd Big 12 team to show signs of legitimacy this season’ game. Colorado coming off of a bye had a big chance to make a statement in the conference, but just as importantly for Travis Hunter’s Heisman campaign.
In an awesome back and forth game it ended up being a true QB battle between Shadeur and Avery Johnson. Just looked at how locked in these guys were all game.
And after a late TD Kansas state would go on to win the game, but not cover their 4.5 as they win 31-28. Deion gets the cover once again.
And that will conclude our Week 7 slate. Byron F. takes the 1st place win for the week going 9-1 for 45 points and beating Andrew O. in a RPS battle (rock>scissor) as Andrew also goes 9-1 for 45 points to take 2nd place. Both secure a spot in the Wild Card. Just three weeks left to secure your spot!
