2024 Week 6 Results
The Sleepy Week Delivers
Just when everyone thought the slate was stale and it was the weekend to miss, college football reminded us all that chaos is always looming. #1, #4, #9, #10, #11 all lose outright and now we enter the weekend everyone has been talking about since summer.
In our games, we had our likely highest single week score of the year, a rare tie, and our lowest collective pick percentage of the season. A lot of highs and lows throughout the Pick Em, where did you end up? Let’s dive into the recap of Week 6!
Three noon games kicked us off with the first having a little off field drama leading into it between our only Top 25 matchup of the week in Mizzou and Texas A&M.
Community notes let us know Will Lee didn’t actually send it, but that maybe makes it even more embarrassing for Theo Wease. A&M rolls for an easy cover.
The 2nd game leads us into a fun potential future ACC is dumb moment. The ACC is starting to play itself into a real sticky situation. As many may forget, SMU is in the ACC this year and starting to play into form. They won outright on the road at Louisville in the 2nd game as 6.5 point dogs and are currently undefeated in ACC play. Clemson is starting to look like they are in the good ol days and seemingly are unstoppable. Miami has paid off everyone and is cheating their way to an undefeated year (more on that later). NONE of these three teams play each other in conference play this season. Below are each school’s remaining ACC conference play, but a 3 way undefeated ACC tie will be hilarious to watch how they quite clearly cheat Miami even further along. Should be fun! No names attached to the schedules, who drops a game?
To wrap up the noon slate, who doesn’t love watching a troops vs troops battle?
Navy wins 34-7 to cover the OVER and the spread.
Iowa came into the year thinking things may be different this time. New OC and a new system hoping to deliver points. They open up the season scoring 30+ in 3 of 4 games and they feel ready to finally play a Big 10 big dog at OSU. And then the game gets played…
But they did manage a garbage time TD to get 7 on the board! Cade McNamara almost hits 100 yards as Ohio State covers easily yet again.
Moving into the SEC, it seems things have taken a turn for the better since last week down in Oxford, Mississippi.
Lane Kiffin was in his bag filled of points and fake injuries again. Though there was one fake injury maybe worth attention after a USC player felt this was a great sack celebration while down 24-3.
This week’s Big 10 Game Of The Week I Didn’t Watch A Second Of But Missed Nothing In goes to Nebraska vs Rutgers! Where the temperature reached nearly 100 degrees by kick off which is bananaland for Nebraska in October. A true Miami Dolphins atmosphere just as they intended.
The night slate gave us our two big upsets of the week on the Pick Em with Tennessee and Michigan both losing outright in road conference games. Tennessee’s offense was nowhere to be found and the Nico love from September has instantly fallen off a cliff. There have been Heisman moments aplenty already this season from all top candidates and then there has been this with a chance to win the game…
An all time wild move as Tennessee never was even in contention of covering -13.5
On the other hand, Michigan did show up and show signs of covering in the rematch of last year’s National Title. They held a 17-14 lead going into the fourth and looked like they could run an offense after switching QBs yet again to a different 7th year guy.
Onto after dark play.
If you haven’t been introduced to Cal twitter yet this season then hopefully this past week has given you a proper introduction. The easy fan base MVP of the season, and one of the more random but electric fanbases in college right now. When it comes to the game it pains me to have to write a recap for this Miami game. Let’s start with the good news: Cal covered! For the bad news, I really just wish Miami would lose. But I will say this, Cam Ward is unbelievable and he is the Jordan Travis to FSU of this year. Take him off this team and they aren’t making a bowl.
The guy is unbelievable and Miami wins after being down 35-10 in the 2nd half. Cal twitter remains undefeated. After Dark football DELIVERS.
And don’t look now, but Texas Tech has put themselves in a real nice spot to be slotted into the bracket late in the season. After an outright win at Arizona in our final game, the Red Raiders have quite a resume developing.
Things are getting weird in the new conference alignment world! Plenty of more chaos to unfold in the weeks ahead.
And that will conclude our Week 6 slate. Trevor T. takes 1st place for the week with the 2nd highest possible score going 9-1 for 54 points missing only his 1 confidence. And then in 2nd we have a very rare triple tie. Brad S. and Jacob R. both go 7-3 for 49 points and both select Rock as their tiebreaker. Typically in these positions both people do not have the same record or the exact same confidence points lost which is our 2nd level tiebreaker. Both lost their 1 2 and 3 level confidence so no variance to use. So here is what we have done in the past and will do today, both will earn an autobid entry to the Wild Card playoff and split the 2nd place prize. And here is what we will do moving forward: We will add 1 more entry to the Wild Card pool extending it to 41 people and if over the next 3 weeks as the Wild Card is finalized this happens again I announce a specific time and record myself flipping a coin to break the tie. If following that there is a full tie in the weekly matchup the people will split the weekly prize.
