Close Finishes Highlight Week 14 Finale in Overall and Wild Card Races

Another year, another great season in the Pick Em. We had tons of winners throughout the year and a ton of close finishes even within the big prizes right down to the wire. To start in the weekly race, we had an impresive performance from Collin H. going 9-1 for 53 points, coming just short of our still unseen 10-0. Will we get a 10-0 record next year? We havent in 7 years so far so hopefully we’re close!

In our overall standings it seemed the top 6 would shuffe among themselves week after week with some new faces popping in for a brief time but what matters is where you are at the end of week 14 and maybe deservedly so we had the person with the best pick percentage throughout the year on the top of the leaderboard. Newcomer 1. Ryan GL. does just enough to move up to the 1 spot and claim the yearly crown. 2. Rob A. and 3. Travis B. followed right behind in the 2 and 3 spots to complete the prize positions. Special shoutouts to Ryan H. for having the 2nd best pick percentage but finishing in the 4 spot. And Jeremy M. who held the #1 spot for a number of weeks but fell from the top 3 in week 14 after a down week.

In the Wildcard out top 5 duked it out in the tightest finish yet for a final week. The top 2 were the prize position spots and the top 3 scores for the week were 37, 36, 35. Just 2 points separating top spot and try again next year. 1. Matt N. had the luck in his favor as he took the first place spot, and our double dip of the year goes to 2. Travis B. as he squeaks in the 2nd spot after finishing 3rd overall for the season. Ryan GL. had the 3rd spot just missing what could have been an epic double dip. Shoutout to Rob A. and Zitello MN. for a hell of a run to the final week as well.

That was another incredible year and it was fantastic to be able to get back to full fledge pick em after the 2020 season. Thank you to everyone for the weekly participation and all the investment as always. We keep getting better every year and already looking forward to next year! Always open to ideas or feedback so send notes along if you have them.

Now some weekly trends from the last week:

  • It was our most evenly bid week across the board as it was the first time all year we did not have a single team get 300+ points bid on them. Georgia (278) and Oklahoma State (240) were the two highest bid teams of the week, neither covering.

  • Teams that were favored in their games started the week only 1-6 SU with Utah (158) being the only win. That was until Cincinnati (163), Michigan (218), and Pittsburgh (231) went 3-0 as favorites SU to end the week.

  • Both our least picked and least bid on team had probably the easiest win of the week with Utah State (44) blowing out San Diego State (191) in the Mountain West championship.
