Will The Real Contenders Please Stand Up

Week 2 started off with a heck of a noon slate when it comes to playoff potential and starting to find out who is real. Michigan went into the week seemingly having made the decision to go with what could be the worst QB to maybe ever grace the sport of football.

Texas had complete control over that game from the kick and a lot of Michigan fans are starting to settle into the Sherrone Moore state of mind for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile our other two noon games came down to the absolute wire and some late line movements helped a good chunk of our pool as well. Between Thursday-Saturday Oklahoma State moved from a -7.5 to a -10.5 spread which would prove to be the difference in winning and losing. At no point in regulation was OkSt covering the 7.5 number for even a second, and at multiple points looked like it was a loser outright. But chaos tends to reign in Stillwater and the double OT rules forced Ok State to go for two and put them up 8, just in time for a miracle cover for many. It’s tough to get outgained by nearly 300 yards and still cover a spread of over a touchdown.

Kansas State was a Big 12 favorite going into the season but quickly learned why Tulane is also being considered a Group of 5 potential favorite to make the playoff this year. This game was oddly probably the first preview of a real potential playoff matchup of the season, and if the G5 is this frisky, it is going to be a very fun playoff.

The afternoon games led into two great moments that really could only happen in college football. The first being a quick consequence of the conference shuffling leading into a game that on paper, shouldn’t ever happen. But in College, all things are possible.

And follow it up by having the most Iowa thing imaginable happen. After serving a one game suspension for recruiting violations, Kirk Ferentz really thought he was doing something.

A shame that in his one game gone was the only time they were able to score 40 points. Our annual tradition of a 10-0 Iowa team we all know is horrible has sadly come to an early end this season.

In rolled our night slate and the Illini broke out some unassuming, yet classic throwbacks to take on Jalon Daniels and Kansas.

And they payed off as the Illini celebrated like they got to play Notre Dame on the road.

When it comes to Tennessee, it seems as tho Nico really is next up. His three games as QB so far have been as dominant as can be, and two of the three were against top 20 oppenents. The SEC now has 6 of the top 7 teams in the AP Poll and is shaping up to be a hell of a ride.

And this brings us to Colorado/Nebraska. Where do we even start with this? Maybe with Raiola actively commiting identity fraud right in front of our faces.

But that is never as fun as it is to talk about the Sanders family over in Boulder. From pregame:

To mid game:

To the end of game:

The one thing that Colorado showed everyone for sure is that they indeed are still a bunch of bums. Nebraska has a chance to be 7-0 heading into Columbus in Week 8 for a potential top 10 matchup, but we have a lot of time still left for chaos to creep in and have its way with our Mahomes wannabe.

Our after dark game capped off the night with a near upset, but an easy cover for another potential G5 playoff team. And don’t look now but Barry Sanders reincarnated is running loose all across that blue turf this year.

The Boise State running back has racked up 459 yards and NINE touchdowns through just two games this season. Meanwhile Oregon moves on with the record intact, but feeling a lot like this as they inch closer to Big Ten play.

And that will wrap up our Week 2 slate. Dyer R. takes 1st place with 49 points and Wolf B. locks up 2nd place at 47 points. Both will earn an autobid entry to the Wild Card playoff which will kick off and run from Weeks 11-15. 40 will make it, two will be rewarded for it.
