Back In The Saddle

What a week we had. After the carnage of last week and everybody scoring low, there was a big correction this week as scores were up! From our gamecast guru, Ryan H., ‘the 10’s from the pool went from 45% in weeks 1-3 and 58% in week 4.’

One thing that we all may have to now deal with, Dabo seems to back. Clemson has rebounded from the Georgia loss in a big way and now is starting to bully people into submission early.

Clemson isn’t all the way back though as MCobbs900 graciously let us know from 30k feet in the sky.

Two rules from the Big 12 played true in this next game.

  1. All games at West Virginia must be delayed for multiple hours

  2. Kansas is going to kansas

The top of the SEC is no doubt in their own league, but the middle and the bottom of the SEC is rapidly turning into 2014 Big Ten football. Arkansas and Auburn displayed a hell of an offensive effort on Saturday afternoon.

But at least Hugh Freeze will never change.

A couple of weeks ago we did a nice feature on what could go down as the single worst quarterback to ever grace a football field. And passing wise, Michigan could not possibly get any worse. Alex Orji stepped in and said ‘hold my beer.’

But more importantly, Michigan finally flipped their RB depth chart as well and we may have found a new star in the making in Kalel Mullings. Boy is that dude good.

But with stats like “0 int’s” Orji clearly was still the player of the game.

For some reason, they let Virginia Tech back on TV.

Going into the week, the one concern in everyone’s mind was the health of Cam Rising. The line was flying back and forth all week and even into Saturday as his status was up in the air.

Ultimately he didn’t end up playing which in a lot of minds gave an easy win to Oklahoma State, but the Cowboys have a much much bigger issue they need to address than any opponent they will face this season…

Utah picks up a rare road win and Stillwater is in a bit of shambles heading into October play.

Just down the road in Norman we had the Sooners hosting their first ever SEC game in what many expected to be a shootout.

Brent Venables has seemed to bring a real defense to Norman for the first time in what must be 150 years, but gone is the time of relying on a Heisman QB to bail you out. Jackson Arnold was so bad that he got benched TWICE in the same game. Early on it looked like Oklahoma should have been leading if not more in it, but Tennesee also may be a new powerhouse and they were in full cruise control the entire 2nd half.

Iowa also played football on Saturday. Didn’t see a second of this one and don’t really think I missed anything!

Now onto our final two games of the night, and my lord did we get some drama from them. Love em or hate em, Colorado is an electric factory. Watching this next sequence live having picked Baylor will be one of the more painful memories I have all season outside of watching Virginia Tech play any down of competitive football.

The cheer and laugh I let out at Colorado after dropping a game tying TD with 3 seconds to play was such a great feeling…

Only to be completely destroyed and torn down on the very next play. Triple teaming Travis Hunter to leave everyone else in 1-on-1 coverage didn’t work out too well!

And then for Travis Hunter to make the game winning play at the goal line was truly just a cherry on top. He is starting to get a sniff of Heisman candidacy but it really shouldn’t even be close. That dude is a different level of beast.

Now we get into the fun of after-dark CFB. We all likely remember @321Noles becoming public enemy number 1 of college football in Week 0, and after he didn’t eat the poop I was initially passing off the below tweet as another knockoff coward.

But as BYU started to steamroll through Kansas State things started to get a little more interesting.

And as of now we have a true man of his word. The world waits in anticipation for Saturday at 9:30pm.

And that will conclude our Week 4 slate. Erik D. takes 1st place for the week going 9-1 for 53 points in a very impressive showing. Aidan S. takes 2nd for the week at 49 points and 8-2. Both will earn an autobid entry to the Wild Card playoff which will kick off and run from Weeks 11-15. 40 will make it, two will be rewarded for it.
