2024 Week 5 Results

Now The Fun Starts

One of the best weeks of college football these eyes have seen in a while. Upsets, epic games, drama all over, fans stepping up, fans getting pissed, ACC getting rigged, and Heisman moments galore. This kind of slate is what we do it for and what we hope to see every Saturday when we tune in. Let’s dive into the games and take a look back at what was.

Our first game on the weekend gave us the biggest upset of the day as Kentucky has shown to be the most confusing team in the country so far.

Ole Miss had a chance to go to overtime but even as college kickers continue to improve, they never stray too far from who they really are.

Two opposite ends of the world for these fan bases leaving this game. Lexington was burning couches and partying like prohibition just ended.

While things down in Oxford look bleak.

Our first Top 25 matchup of the day brought us the easy first place entry for Fan of the Year. Last week we talked about the twitter promises needing to step up. And SaintBillSnider did just that. (linked not embedded for a reason, click at your own will) Kansas State had no chance of losing this game with fans like these. Look out for the Wildcats this year.

Indiana has sneaked under a lot of radars this year as one of the best offenses in the country, but now they are in the Top 25 and the lights are a bit brighter. The Big Ten has some surprise teams making a run this year now with Rutgers and Indiana showcasing they are here to play.

Wisconsin got out to a 21-10 lead at half and with a +15.5 spread behind them there is no way they won’t cover, right…right? The Trojans 2nd half runs continue and they not only avoid dropping their first two games in conference play, but they cover the game after winning the 2nd half 28-0.

A big potential playoff matchup was thrown on Peacock this week in what is a disgusting display of streaming war greed. But Notre Dame came out in probably their best uniform combo possible and held on just long enough to cover by a half point.

Then we get to Oklahoma/Auburn which is easily our shitshow game of the week. Neither team has a QB they can trust and before the game even started we had this kind of nonsense going on so we knew we were in for a treat.

In an ugly game Auburn went up 21-10 and as we saw earlier, that score should definitely secure you a win right…right?! Well some Auburn fans thought so… (Jail for all of these people)

But as we mentioned, QBs in this game were an issue and Auburn got burnt the most on it.

To really soak in just how much Auburn threw this game away, take a look at the far left section of this chart and you will see an OU (and a Rutgers, shoutout) team that should not have been in this game. OU covers in a spread that had a LOT of movement by the time it got to kickoff.

UNLV gave us our ‘wtf is going on in college’ game of the week. If you were following any college news this week you probably saw the wild saga with UNLV’s QB Sulka who sounds like he got screwed from an awful agent. It is too much to all break down here but it sadly may be something we have to get used to happening in this new wild world.

On top of it their starting Running back followed up a few hours later and did the exact same thing, what is happening in Las Vegas! With this much distraction on a potential playoff team there is no way they should be able to rally against a very solid Fresno State team right….right? Man I love this sport. UNLV steamrolls Fresno and don’t look now but the team in ‘disarray’ is ranked.

Where do I even start for this Georgia Alabama game? With Bama going up 28-0 and looking like the best team ever assembled behind a Heisman QB? Or with Georgia staging one of the greatest comebacks ever behind a Heisman QB? We all saw this game, we all got to take in the glory of what this sport can be. Remember all the people saying the playoff diminishes the regular season and we won’t get awesome games because no one cares and blah blah blah. Losers and haters, all of them. The electricity that is college football can not be contained. This was the best college game in years. Let’s just all revel in the greatest spin move since Braxton Miller. Bama ain’t going nowhere anytime soon. DeBoer has arrived.

Having the Penn State/Illinois game at the same time as Bama/UGA was a little mean to the Big Ten. Both were great games in their own right, but boy was that Penn State game boring as hell. I don’t even have anything to share here so here is a cool shot of the white out I guess.

If this is your first year following college football than you may not fully understand the Cam Rising experience. But if you have been a fan for any of the last 15 years you will know exactly what I am talking about here. Never has a man caused such confusion and uncertainty for so long. We know he is going to get hurt, but how badly and for how long we will never know. Utah last week looked like the clear front runner in a crazy Big 12, but now that SaintBillSnider has arrived and Cam Rising is in his bag, it is anyone’s conference to win. The Cats were cruising most of the night and pull off our 2nd big upset of the week!

And that will conclude our Week 5 slate. Christie H. takes 1st place for the week with 49 points. And a Rock Paper Scissors battle gives 2nd place to Tim T. at 48 points. Both will earn an autobid entry to the Wild Card playoff which will kick off and run from Weeks 11-15. 40 will make it, two will be rewarded for it.
